Fertility and Maternity Reflexology

There are four stages which reflexology can help the woman, before, during pregnancy and after childbirth, these are:

childbirth; and

The term sub-fertility is the state of being unable to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse or to refer to a state of having never conceived.

Often anxiety and worry can create the physical problems that prevent a woman conceiving. In this instance reflexology helps by balancing all the body systems to allow a healthy conception to take place. By applying very gentle pressure to selected reflex points on the feet and hands it can help to balance the endocrine system (hormones) and stimulate the reproductive organs. Both women and men can benefit from having reflexology treatments, as it can often regulate menstruation and stimulate sperm production.

Maternity reflexology is one of the safest, most supportive therapies for pregnant women and is extremely relaxing and calming for the mind, body and the baby.

From the early stages of morning sickness to delivery discomfort, pregnancy can be physically demanding. So reflexology can help with relief of many complaints during pregnancy:

Morning sickness

Nausea and headaches

Pain and discomfort

Loss of bladder control

Stress and anxiety

Lack of sleep and fatigue

Digestive problems, for example constipation

Fluid retention

Reflexology can play an important role leading up to the birth and there is documented evidence supporting this. Expectant mothers who receive regular reflexology treatments during their pregnancy have experienced much shorter labours with less intervention than those who didn’t.

Once a baby has arrived, parents’ lives may be thrown into unusual routines, feeding times, lack of sleep, and general exhaustion.

Reflexology can help to:

calm and relax;

increase energy levels;

re-balance the body;

stabilise body weight;

aid lactation; and

prevent or reduce post-natal depression.

Reflexology can help to make any pregnancy an enjoyable experience, so why not try it for yourself!
